The LISTEN Study

Kindred is working with Yale researchers to build a learning community to help find answers. Join Kindred now to enroll in LISTEN.

The LISTEN study is recruiting only from the Kindred network. Follow these simple steps to participate in COVID research with leading scientists:

  1. Register on Kindred to join the community.

  2. Tap on “enroll in LISTEN” and sign the study’s informed consent to give your permission to share your data with the study.

  3. On your own schedule, complete the Kindred COVID Assessment in your Kindred “To Do’s” and share your COVID experience with the research team.

  4. Connect your health data to share with the LISTEN team. Learn more about how Hugo Health Kindred’s privacy policy gives you access and control of your data.

LISTEN stands for Listen to Immune, Symptom, and Treatment Experiences Now.

By collecting information about symptoms and medical history from the Kindred community LISTEN researchers hope to understand Long COVID symptoms, corresponding immune responses, and vaccine injury. Some participants will be asked to submit blood and saliva samples.

How the study works

The Yale LISTEN investigators have agreed to work in partnership with Kindred members throughout the study, including sharing results back with participants when the analysis is complete.

To enroll, people will consent to have the health data and surveys that they generate in the Kindred community shared with LISTEN researchers. This information will be analyzed for insights about the health of people in the study, including those with long COVID and those with syndromes after vaccination.

Additionally, the researchers will characterize demographic, clinical, social, and environmental factors associated with health status.

The LISTEN team will identify and invite some participants to give blood and saliva samples as part of the study. Samples will be taken from participants by a trained phlebotomist from ExamOne (a part of Quest labs). Yale researchers will help schedule collection at a convenient time either at your home or at a Quest Diagnostics center.

Hugo Health Kindred is proud to work only with researchers who agree to Kindred’s Research Principles: treating participants as partners and with respect, listening to participant suggestions about the study, abiding by Hugo Health Kindred’s strict data use agreement, and engaging participants in interpreting and disseminating results.

“Progress requires teamwork, trust, and tenacity; and the courage to believe that anything is possible if we work together.”

— Dr. Harlan Krumholz, cardiologist and scientist at Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital.

How to join the study

The LISTEN study is recruiting from the Hugo Kindred Community to rapidly enroll and partner with study participants. This method of recruitment has been approved by the Yale committee that oversees studies and protects the interests of participants. To get started, join Kindred. The study is enrolling now.

Kindred is a platform created by Hugo Health that allows people to join communities, connect to their health data and join research studies. As a diclosure, Dr. Harlan Krumholz, one of the investigators of the LISTEN study, is a co-founder of Hugo Health.
